The Proprietor's Description | Orchard Dene Cottage is a friendly house, more than just somewhere to sleep for the night. It has a lovely garden, and is conveniently situated for the ‘honey-pot’ tourist areas such as Windsor, Oxford and Blenheim, as well as for the comparatively deserted Chiltern countryside if you want to go for a good long walk. |

Rooms | Two rooms, one single and one double (a proper double, not twin). The single has washbasin and TV. Neither is 'en suite' (ours is a small country cottage that does not lend itself to such things) but the bathroom is located between the two rooms. |
Grading/Recommended | Our ‘Quality Assured’ category is Four Diamonds, awarded by Tourism South East. |
Prices | The single is 35.00 and the double is 60.00. For single-occupancy of the double we charge 40.00. All prices are per room per night and include full English breakfast. |
Breakfast time | Whenever the guest requires it… as early as 0600 if an airport calls, or as late as 1000 after a Saturday night wedding party. Not too keen on mammoth cook-ups after 1000, though! |
Car trip to Bix at 9am | We are at the bottom of the dual carriageway that drops down from Bix village, so it's a mile and a quarter on a road unaffected by the morning peak. Two or three minutes, perhaps? (One of our regular guests comes to NLP courses; she has no car, so we give her a lift up to Bix Manor each morning and often fetch her in the evening.) |
Nearest town for evening meals | Distance from nearest town (Henley, centre) is a mile and three-quarters. Distance to nearest pub for evening meals is not much more than fifty yards (Luscombes at the Golden Ball), and the Rainbow in Middle Assenden is less than a mile away. |
Smoking | Both bedrooms are non-smoking. But if guests wish to smoke, they are welcome to do so in the sitting room. |
TV | The TV in the single room is bog-standard 4-channel terrestrial, with no VHS/DVD facilities. The TV in the sitting room is bigger (but bog-standard nonetheless) and has VHS. [Most of our guests are either so knackered by their day’s activities that they simply want to go to sleep, or they’ve come from some far-flung outpost in the world and want to talk to us about our/their country – which we welcome.] |
