| NLP Time Line east west culture differences — Sheila Browning — Wednesday, January 31, 2007 |
Hi, Sue - we met a LOOONG time ago (1989???) when you ran a workshop for us. I remember it especially since it was the day before my mother died, so a very strong emotional marker, and I found the workshop learnings so useful at that time. I’ve worked abroad quite a lot but always in Western European or North American cultures. I seem to remember during my NLP practitioners’ training a discussion on the difference between East and West in how they are IN time i.e. past, present and future spread out in a semi circle in front of you (west) as opposed to being in a North/South top to bottom timeline with the past behind you and the future in front. Can’t find this in my current NLP books so two questions - 1. Any refernces to this in yur books or on the web? 2. How does it ’gel’ with the work you’re doing in Istanbul etc? Best regards Sheila Browning |

Dear Sheila thank you for getting in touch after such a time... I am trying to remember where we did the workshop.. Can you prompt me some more... And re the timelines well I find that there are so many variations with every individual now no matter what the country and to be honest I have resisted generalisations of late... but I have recently worked in India too and am just reflecting back on what I noticed there... I think I will have to do some more systems observations when I am back there. There are some books on cultural differences but I am not sure that I have seen anything directly related to this. I will investigate and get back to you.. Warm regards, Sue |
