| Is NLP Really Proven? — Zahir Mahmood — Friday, September 05, 2003 |
Hi Sue, I'm considering whether to attend an NLP course, but as many others have expressed, I'm fairly dubious about the claims that NLP Colleges and advocates make about its usefulness. Has there been any major empirical research into whether it makes a differenc eto peoples lives on completion? People always give good feedback on a last day of a course or even a week or two after it finishes if they enjoyed the way the course was taught etc. But to find out if it really worked, research needs to be done on people 1-2 years after they completed a course. Has this, in your knowledge, ever been undertaken? Where can I find results? |
| Sue's Answer |
Dear Zahir, thank you for your question. I am often asked this as there are many claims made for NLP and my answer is usually to advise people to test it out for themselves. NLP is a form of research into what works. I have just completed teaching an NLP Master Practitioner course and the delegates on that have been working with NLP for a couple of years and at the end of the programme they write up their projects about what has worked for them and specifically what they have modelled and with what results. If you would like a copy of that let me know and I will arrange for you to get a copy sent to you if you send us your address. So anyone who is doing NLP is doing research all the time in order to find out what works and especially what makes a difference. I cannot recall anyone in the years that I have been teaching NLP say that it did not make a difference for them over time in fact because of the way that I teach NLP most of the changes take place over time. I hope that helps and let us know if you want the copy of the modelling projects. Sincerely, Sue Knight |
