The Beach at Sunset

Spence improved this photo for me. He noticed the detail in the girl’s hat and enhanced the photo to highlight that. He noticed how another’s hair was silhouetted against the background. And he deleted one part of the photo – the part that would make it obvious what was happening. In that way he turned an evident image into something much more mysterious and puzzling. Many people have asked me what the people in the picture are doing. Well without telling you exactly all I will say is that this was taken on New Year’s Day in Cherai Beach, Kerala in the very south of India and the group are engaging in something that most people on the beach do at this time!
